Division of Gastroenterology

This division diagnoses and treats diseases a wide range of organs such as the esophagus, stomach, small intestine large intestine, anus, liver, gall bladder and pancreas. The division of gastroenterology also deals with motility disorders, reflux oesophagitis and esophageal cancer among other diseases of the esophagus including functional gastrointestinal disturbance, gastrointestinal bleeding, peptic ulcer and stomach cancer.

In addition the division handles other diseases of the stomach or the duodenum including irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel diseases, ischemic bowel diseases, large intestinal diverticulum, infective colitis, small intestinal cancer and colorectal cancer.

Cases related to the small intestine or large intestine are also treated including acute/chronic hepatitis, alcoholic/non-alcoholic fatty liver, hepatic cirrhosis and its complications and hepatoma. Other treated diseases of the liver by the division include cholecystolithiasis, biliary tract calculus, biliary tract cancer, acute/chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer among diseases of the biliary tract or the pancreas.

Among special examination, this division performs visual finding observations using gastroendoscopes (conscious sedation endoscopy), colonoscopes, biopsy and non-operative treatment of gastrointestinal diseases.
