Division of Pulmonology

This is a branch of the department of internal medicine that studies and treats diseases occurring in the thorax such as the bronchus, the lungs, the pleura and the mediastinum. The division of pulmonology determines the causes of and treatment directions for symptoms such as extended coughs, sputum, dyspnea, and abnormal pulmonary sounds.

This division operates patients' rooms and tuberculosis isolation rooms for pneumonia, pulmonary tuberculosis, and other infectious pulmonary diseases. Dedicated nurses are arranged for pulmonary tuberculosis patients to closely control the patients until the time of family examinations and healing. This division operates 'thorough pulmonary function examination rooms' and 'allergy examination rooms' for patients with emphysema, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and interstitial lung disease. The division also conducts various kinds of asthma challenge tests and special examinations. For thorough examinations of lung cancer and neoplastic disease, this division operates a chest CT room, a nuclear medicinal examination room and a bronchial endoscopy room, and cooperative treatment teams with the department of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery and the department of radiology of our hospital.

This division treats and studies various kinds of intractable respiratory diseases, operates internal medicine intensive care units for respiratory failure patients, and can provide treatment with respirators.
