Department of Neurosurgery

The Department of Neurosurgery at the HanilGeneral Hospital was established in the mid-1970s and mainly treated head injury patients during the early stage of its establishment. Since general hospitals including some university hospitals could not establish a neurosurgery department at the time, the HanilGeneral Hospital’s Department of Neurosurgery was also used as a clinical training hospital for medical college students in the past.

Recently, the Department of Neurosurgery at the HanilGeneral Hospital has seen positive results from surgical treatment of intractable neurosurgical diseases. This department surgically treats hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage, brain tumors, hydranencephaly, traumatic cerebral hemorrhage, spondylodiscitis (cervical spine, lumbar spine), spinal cord tumors, and spine fractures. In particular, this department minimizes complications and sequelae through surgery using microscopes for microsurgery.

This department introduced intra-cerebrovascular surgery in 2012 to begin treatment without invasive surgery of the head or scalp, thereby leaving no wounds and less visible scarring.

Given the number of patients and the number of cases of surgery that have been continuously increasing thus far, the possibility of future development of this department is expected to be very high. The neurosurgery department will keep making efforts towards the development of regional medical services and individual patient care.
