Digestive System Center

HanilGeneral Hospital surveyed the prevalence rates of digestive problem cases in the Dobong-gu and Gangbuk-gu areas which are neighboring regions of the hospital, and in response opened a digestive system center equipped with four outpatient clinics and five endoscopic examination rooms in October of 2004. Its goal was to provide active healthcare services reflecting the need in the local community.

In the outpatient clinics, four specialists in the department of gastroenterology and two specialists in digestive surgery perform expert diagnoses and treatments on a wide range of diseases involved in digestion such as the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, anus, liver, gall bladder and pancreas.

An accurate and consistent treatment system has been established based on close cooperation of many specialists related to digestive problems such as those in interventional radiology and the pathology. Along with the opening of the digestive system center, the clinics of the department of digestive organ internal medicine and the department of digestive organ surgery were combined into one clinic to prepare a new system of cooperative medical treatment by internal medicine and surgery.

The endoscopic examination rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art gastroscopic and colonoscopic examination systems of Olympus Co., which are the most accurate endoscopes in the world that enable accurate observation of even very small minute lesions along with many other supplemental gastroscopes, colonoscopes and pancreatic and biliary endoscopes. Recently, equipment necessary for treatment endoscopy such as ERBE have been expanded to enable faster and more accurate diagnoses and treatments.

Before the opening of the new digestive system center, the endoscopic examination equipment was expanded and also a one-stop service system was established by combining the outpatient clinic of the department of gastroenterology and the endoscopic examination room which is indispensable to the treatment of digestive issues. The endoscopic examination room was designed with patients in mind first with recovery rooms and a lounge.

The digestive system center is equipped with environments that enable appropriate responses to difficulties in breathing during conscious sedation endoscopy or safety accidents as nurses specialized in safety control are continuously educated and trained at the center. Since specialists in endoscopy are always waiting for treatments, emergency endoscopy can be conducted on the day of the patient's visit. In addition, since the center is equipped with treatment endoscopes, diagnoses and treatments can be conducted together.
